Crane’s S.A.S.S.Y Program

The acronym S.A.S.S.Y. means “Save A Sister Save Yourself” which means that you as black woman should represent yourself as a young woman and not as a “hood chick” or “hoochie”. When you carry yourself well and they see that you’re doing well and you came from the same neighborhood they are going to want to upgrade themselves, and you have the criteria to help them!

This program takes students in with good manners who like to get things done. They attend meetings and represent their school along with their womanhood. They have also prepared an all-student assembly, speaking on attendance and grades. They have even invited a student group from Fenger High School called D.I.V.A.S. who enjoyed their stay here so much that they returned the favor by inviting us to their school. Some of their teachers still had cougar pride because at the end of the S.A.S.S.Y. year they treat their S.A.S.S.Y. girls to a day at the spa where they show off their manners and enjoy themselves. S.A.S.S.Y. mentors like to refer to her mentee as D.I.Ts (divas in training).

As a S.A.S.S.Y. member I can say that it is the learning experience of a lifetime.  The S.A.S.S.Y. program is a continuous program for girls from 9th-11th. If you fit the description or would like to join the program-you are in luck! Because the S.A.S.S.Y. staff is looking to recruit new members for the New Year. The program would be starting in January and will hold meetings on Wednesdays, but the S.A.S.S.Y. staff is looking for someone who is willing to commit to the program and attend every meeting unless, of course, there is an emergency. If you have any questions see Dr. Ladd or Ms. Day.
